About

How We Started

welcome Tom & Jerry Nursery School was started in the year 1996 by Mrs. Shakila Banu. A trained teacher  with more than 30 years of experience has worked at reputed schools of Bangalore like Sri Aurobindo Memorial School and Sri Saraswathi Vidya Mandir.

Tom and Jerry started as a regular school with children in the age group of  2 to 5 years. In the second year of its inception, a students’ brother aged 5 years accompanied the student to the school. The child was physically challenged and was noticed by Mrs. Banu and with her suggestion, the parents started to send this child for a few hours to the school. The child was unable to sit or perform regular activities. In the ensuing months, the child showed gradual progress. This remarkable improvement ignited the mission of Mrs. Banu towards the special children.

The number gradually rose as the school grew. This was mainly because of the parents being happy with the improvement they could see in their children. It was these parents who helped in spreading the word about the school. Now there are 25 children in our special unit.

It was in the year 2004 the school became a part of JDC Sparsha Educational Trust, for better efficiency and service. The school has now completed 23 years with more than 2500 students finishing nursery school with us and have moved forward to prestigious schools.

The school has 13 rooms adequately lit and ventilated, with ample space for indoor games and a large play area for the children situated in a natural setting. The school is also equipped with a treadmill, air walker, twister, trampoline, ladder, light dumbbells, and stationary cycle. The school is helping many children facing financial constraints with fee waivers.

Services Offered

We take care of students having a range of disabilities including but not limited to the following
  • Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy describes a group of permanent disorders of the development of movement and posture causing activity limitation that are attributed to non- progressive disturbances that occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain.  The motor disorders of cerebral palsy are often accompanied by disturbances of sensation, cognition, perception, communication, behaviour, by epilepsy and by secondary musculo skeletal problems.

  • Austism

The autistic spectrum disorders are a heterogeneous group of neuro-behavioural syndromes characterized by major impairments in basic social relationships, abnormal language development, limited or non existent imagination and extremely rigid patterns of behaviour. The term “spectrum” implies a range of severity from mild, allowing close to normal functions in many areas, to the most severe in which social function appears to be impossible, but there always deficits in the “core triad” of socialization, communication and imagination, and restricted behaviour. There is no single cause for these disorders, although a genetic influence is most frequently found. The disorders result from abnormal brain development

  • Mental Retardation

A number of terms including “intellectual impairment”, “cognitive impairment”, “mental handicap” and “learning difficulty” are used to describe individuals whose natural reasoning abilities, “common sense” and ability to look after themselves independently, are because of abnormalities of or early injury to the brain, insufficient to allow independent function in society. Mental retardation is a disability characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual function and in adaptive behaviour as expressed in conceptual social and practical adaptive skills.
